random notes

a. i'm stressed out already. i feel like all my hair should be grey.

b. changes in my class schedule: dropped pastoral care of congregations; added poetry and the care of souls with dr. capps; added practicum in youth ministry with dayle rounds

c. a jehovah's witness came into j.crew yesterday and while i was wrapping up her things, she offered my co-worker a magazine. my co-worker had never heard of jehovah's witnesses so he accepted a magazine that had cash on the front thinking it was a financial investment type magazine and proceeded to ask her if she had any details magazines. meanwhile, i'm on the side, trying not to laugh as my co-worker, who has no idea what a jehovah's witness is, is asking for a men's magazine from a jehovah's witness, who has no idea what that magazine is. it was immensely enterntaining to me as i was informing him on the little i knew about jehovah's witnesses after the lady had left.

d. the event mentioned in (c) led to a pretty cool religious conversation between my two co-workers and myself that were working in the same area. it was fascinating because between the three of us, we were a christian, a muslim and an orthodox jew. sounds like a joke, huh. did you ever hear the one about the jew, the christian and the muslim working at j.crew...

e. i really hope our refund checks come in this friday. that would hopefully alleviate some of my stress.

f. i have to go write my learning/serving covenant for field education now.

my schedule this semester

to answer jenny's question from a while ago, here are my classes for the upcoming semester:

pc329 pastoral care of congregations with mcnish
monday 10:40-12:30

nt212 gospel of john with parsenios
tues./thurs. 11:40-12:55

ec409 american religion and american literature with pierce
tues. 1:30-3:20 and thurs. 1:30-2:20

ed101 introduction to teaching ministry with osmer
tues./thurs. 3:30-4:45

gm104 academic year field education at princeton united methodist church

i'll have you note that as of right now, i have no classes on wednesdays or fridays. i'm sure that will change a little once precepts are scheduled. i'm really looking forward to this semester. i've heard that yolanda pierce is absolutely amazing and this class is exactly her specialty. plus, i get to read fiction so i'm more likely to do all my reading! i've wanted to take another class with parsenios so i'm happy to be doing that. and, much to my amusement, i'm finally taking ed101 in my super senior year when i should have taken it my junior year. i'm very happy to be in a class with dr. osmer again. the pc of congregations was one that sounded interesting and fit into my schedule. there were plenty of other courses i wanted to take but they happened to be at the same time as my other classes so i feel i've done fairly well with balancing it all out. and, finally, i think my field ed. experience is going to be extremely positive and i'm so thankful for that!

my car is clapping his hands

cause he's happy and he knows it!

so, i promised leon (my car) that if he took me 1.5 times across the country that i would buy him a fancy car wash. okay, so i know that my car really doesn't have a consciousness but i did feel bad for being back more than a week and not honoring my part of the bargain after leon so gallantly honored his end of the deal. so, today, after i cashed my paycheck, i did a little car pampering.

now, leon has a full tank of gas, changed oil and is vacuumed, dust-free and very shiny. he's so fresh and clean clean! although, if you ask me, the 'nu car' air freshener they used smells more like 'clean dog'. ah well, it's better than funk!
